Research has found that children fare better academically when they read during the summer months.  Having your elementary student read over the summer can prevent reading achievement losses that normally occur.

Britt David Magnet has grade-level summer reading goals for all of our students, including our incoming kindergarteners.

Kindergarten: 125 books

First Grade: 125 books

Second Grade: 125 books or 1250 pages

Third Grade: 1250 pages

Fourth Grade: 1250 pages

Fifth Grade: 1250 pages

Summer reading is meant to be pleasurable and entertaining for the child.  Students are encouraged to read any material they want to read regardless of the book's reading level.  If your child reads a book multiple times, please write down the book title every time they complete the book!  Enjoy your summer and KEEP READING!  We will recognize our summer reader leaders in August!
